Passion. Power. Movement. These trigger my urge to paint, to define the
intangible and infinite through color, texture, and lines.
Wherever I might be living, once the emotional trigger kindles an idea for
a painting, it can simmer in my mind for a few hours, or years, before the
right moment comes to put it on raw canvas. With my eyes closed, I take
my first brush stroke (all that intimidating white space!), which unleashes
the captivating odyssey of what follows. Often I can’t stop. Some
paintings take weeks, while others may take a couple of days.
When I paint I become euphoric, electrified by the same feelings of
passion and power that I experience in the color, light and texture of the
invented characters of my paintings which move driven by the strength
and sensual power of their passion.
If I do not paint from my heart, and sense a feeling being transmitted as I
paint, I’ll start over.
For me, movement is the expression of pure passion.
My mind often moves fast, jumping from one idea to the next as I paint, so
I like to use fast-drying acrylics that can keep up with me.
I also move between paintings, working from a flamenco dancer to an
abstraction of her heart. Or I use light and gold textures to abstract the
energy and atmosphere around a bullfighter. Sometimes I finish a painting
with oil paints, to create transparency or add brightness to the paint.
Constructing pieces with depth and textures from sand, molding paste,
gessos, and wax, I don't consciously think of a technique to use. I don’t
plan as much as I play with my materials …where ultimately I am moved
by the desire to create something tangible from what is not,to capture
the magic, passion and art that is such an essential part of Flamenco
Dancers and Bullfighters.
Michele Krauss was born and raised in Santiago, Chile in 1968. She moved to the United States in1987, starting a never-ending journey of moves and experiences. Michele has pursued her education in art wherever possible while also complying with the needs of her family. In 1992 she moved from New York to San Francisco, where she started an intensive introspection of her artistic interests. Moving to Milan, Italy, presented her with the unique opportunity of studying Interior Architecture at ISAD (1995-1996). Another move to Miami, FL in 1997 allowed Michele to take art classes developing her skills. With yet another move Michele took a diploma-course in Interior design at SUNY (1999). In London, England Michele studied Interior Design at KLC (2002) surrounded by an array of art galleries that always kept her inspired. Michele then moved with her family to Madrid, Spain, where she studied art with Julia Rueda from 2002 to 2004. It was there that she decided that she wanted to pursue a more serious career in painting. In 2005 Michele moved to Greenwich, CT where she painted with artist Eline de Jonge, and was given the opportunity to start showing her work in solo, juried and group shows.
Her years of traveling and studying have allowed her to develop a very particular style, composed of many different passions. Her earlier years in art attracted her to more realistic works evolving to abstracts, but always with an unmovable passion for Flamenco dancers and Bullfighters. Passion. Power. Movement. These trigger her urge to paint, to define the intangible and infinite through color, texture, and lines.
As a self-taught artist, she keeps taking the opportunity to grow and learn as an artist; taking courses, painting with different artists and absorbing what the world has to offer.
She is currently painting with Chilean artist German Tagle and Anna Patalano.
Many of her paintings are at private collections worldwide.
