BIOGRAPHIES


Phoebe Vernier "La Fibi"
"La Fibi" has studied, taught and performed Flamenco dance for 19 years. She has danced in the companies of Rosa Montoya Bailes Flamencos, La Tania Music and Dance, and toured nationally with the renowned Maria Benitez Spanish Dance Company. She was a core member of The Sol y Luna Band and Cuadro for six years. She currently lives, teaches and performs throughout Sonoma County.

Carola Zertuche
Carola Zertuche was born in Mexico where she began her dance career at Mexico City's premier Tablao Flamenco "Meson de Triana", Carola has danced with numerous companies in Mexico, USA and Spain. She has studied extensively with such renowned artist as Manolo Vargas, Ciro, Belen Maya, Andres Marin. She resides in San Francisco where teaches and performs with different companies.

Juliana Drechsel
Juliana Drechsel has studied Spanish classical dance and Flamenco first in Brazil, and later in the U.S. and Spain, where she studied with Angelita Gomez in Jerez de la Frontera, El Guito and Merche Esmeralda. She has been a member of Monica's Arte y Compás since 1999 and Yaelisa & Caminos Flamencos since 2000. She currently performs and teaches throughout the Bay Area.

Virginia Iglesias
Director of "The Flamenco Academy of Dance," soloist, master teacher and innovative choreographer, Ms. Iglesias has been dedicated to flamenco for 20 years, beginning her professional dance career in Madrid, performing in Spanish dance companies and touring internationally. Her company of 16 artists can be seen in concert this year at the Cowell Theater on Sept. 28 and Stanford Dinkelspiel Theater on Oct. 18, 2003.

Melissa Cruz
Melissa Cruz was a company member of Rosa Montoya's Bailes Flamencos and for the past several years has been dancing regularly as a soloist in many of the Bay Area's top tableaus. Her influences include intensive studies in Spain with Yolanda Heredia, Alegria Suarez, Manoli Rios and Andres Marin.

Yaelisa
Yaelisa is the Emmy Award-winning director of Caminos Flamencos, a nationally recognized company of artists dedicated to presenting theatrical and education programs in flamenco of the highest caliber. Yaelisa is also the artistic director and founder of the New World Flamenco Festival, a two week international flamenco festival held at the Irvine Barclay Theater in Irvine, California each year in the summer.

Defne Enç
Defne Enç trained in and performed classical ballet for ten years before
beginning her flamenco studies in 1996. She has been performing for five years, in theatres and tablaos both in the Bay Area and abroad. She has recently returned from Sevilla where she studied intensively with Yolanda Heredia, Alegria Suarez, and Manuela Rios.


Danica Sena "La Mora"
Danica Sena "La Mora" has performed Flamenco and Spanish dance throughout the U.S., Japan and Europe for over a decade with critical acclaim. She has choreographed for opera and ballet as well and has been a City Ballet School faculty member since 1999. She currently teaches at Rhythm & Motion Dance Studio in San Francisco and Roundhill Studios in San Jose and is the founder and artistic director of Grupo Andanza.
