Carolé Acúña is an international Flamenco-Spanish Dance Artist, a gifted performer and one of the most prominent young artists in the Flamenco-Spanish dance scene. “Acúña is a mesmesrizing young woman and a sensuous, generous dancer, as gifted in classical Spanish dance as in gypsy Flamenco”…Ann Murphy, Dance Critic, Oakland Tribune Her dance style in Flamenco-Spanish dance is described by Carolé as “Modern and traditional, lithe, forceful, with controlled movements, a lot of expression and energy”. She is a Fifth Generation Dancer in her family and began her training in Flamenco with Rosa Montoya , Carolina Lugo, Omayra Amaya and Cristian Almodovar of Spain. Her most recent extensive studies in Flamenco have been with the renowned Flamenco Artist, Pepa Montes, Concha Varga, Miguel Vargas, and Torombo in Seville, Spain during 2003, 2004 and 2005. Ms. Acúña has also studied with Antonio Vargas {featured Flamenco artist in the film “Strictly Ballroom” and “Mission Impossible II”} in 2003 and with Manuel Betanzos of Seville in 1998, 1999. She has studied all facets of Spanish Dance which includes classical Spanish and Regional dances and received her training and continuous coaching with Carolina Lugo. She is the Principal Dancer for Carolina Lugo’s Brisas de España Flamenco Dance Company since 1997. Carolé has been assistant choreographer for Brisas de España since 2003 and has collaborated on some fused Flamenco-Argentine Tango choreographic works with Argentine Tango Star, Pampa Cortez and a Brazilian Samba piece. She has toured throughout the West Coast with Brisas de España and has been featured with numerous symphonies in California and the Reno Philharmonic in Nevada in Flamenco-Spanish dance to sell-out audiences.

Carolé has performed in concert with notable Flamenco artists such as Rosa Montoya, Jesus Montoya, Gino D’Auri, Manuel Betanzos, Antonio Vargas, Juan Talavera and most recently collaborated with Carolina Lugo, the Miño Family ~ Pepa Montes, Ricardo Miño and Pedro Ricardo Miño and performed in “Sonidos de Dos Familias”, a concert dedicated to the traditions of Flamenco-Spanish dance, song and music that are deeply rooted in families that are passed on from one generation to the next. She performs regularly with Brisas de España and as a soloist with other Bay Area flamenco artists such as Monica Bermudez, Ben Woods and Dan Fries at venues throughout Northern California. She will be performing in the opera production of “Carmen” with the Golden Gate Opera at the Marin Civic Center on September 23rd & 24th 2005 as a featured guest artist with Brisas de España. Carolé made her professional debut with Rosa Montoya Bailes Flamenco in 1996 at age 15 and toured Northern California with them during their 1997 concert season. She is thoroughly trained in Ballet with Laureen Fender and in Modern Dance with Cheryl Chaddick of Company Chaddick in San Francisco and Robert Moses.

In addition to being a Flamenco artist, Carolé is also a Stand-Up Comedian where much of the subject matter is about Flamenco and the culture surrounding it. She studied Stand-Up and Improvisational Comedy at the San Francisco Comedy College under the direction and tutelage of College Director, Kurtis Matthews and Improvisational Comedy at the San Jose Repertory Theater. She performs Stand-Up Comedy weekly at various venues throughout Northern California. Carolé does modeling for various Bay Area dance photographers and sculptors, Diablo Magazine, Contra Costa Times, San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco City College.

Carolé will be offering workshops in Flamenco and Modern dance at the Jon Sims Performing Arts Center in San Francisco starting in September on Saturday mornings.
