+ Introducing the Monthly Letra

Death came to my bedside
and didn’t want to take me;
my trials were not over yet
and when she left I cried.

La muerte a mi cama vino
Y no me quiso lleva
No estaba cumplio mi sino
Y al irse me eche a llora.
-Solea

Cerco tiene la luna,
mi amor ha muerto.

There's a halo round the moon
My love has died.

It is wonderous and strange how the anonymous, and never published poet can put into just three or four lines all the highest emotional moments of human life - Ferderico Garcia Lorca

from Gypsy Cante, selections and translations by William Kirkland published by and available at City Lights Books.

Kathryn Klassen’s “Out of the Shadow/Sangre Torera” U. S. premiere was at the 7th International Latino Film Festival. Toreras, women with passion and perseverance work to gain recognition and respect in bullfighting in this overview past and present. The film takes a provocative look into the lives of some of these intriguing, beautiful, and dynamic women who confront death during each performance. The superb film was extremely well received by the audience at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts.
