Carolina Lugo's Brisas de España Flamenco Dance Company presents the Miño Family in "FLAMENCO EN CONCIERTO". Carolina Lugo has invited an international cast of artists to take her audience on a journey of timeless travel to Spain for a night of love, high energy and passion, to celebrate Brisas de España's 8th Concert Season. The traditions of Spanish and Flamenco dance, song and music are deeply rooted in families, passed from one generation to the next. This year she is proud to present "SONIDOS DE DOS FAMILIAS".

Carolina and her daughter Carolé Acúña with their rich history of performing Flamenco and Classical Spanish dance to sold out audiences, will welcome from Seville, Spain the world renowned Miño Family in "Flamenco en Concierto". These two remarkable families will share the world stage for One Night Only, on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 8:00 PM to create an evolution of beauty, intensity and style.

The critically acclaimed Miño Family performs in concert throughout Europe, Asia, South America and at the leading, most prestigious Flamenco festival in Spain, "La Bienal de Flamenco" in Seville. The husband and wife duet of Ricardo Miño and Pepa Montes founded their Dance Company, "Flamenco en Concierto " in 1979. They have been featured and honored guest artists at La Bienal for 25 years since its inception in 1980.

Ricardo Miño, is one of the most brilliant contemporary guitarists of today. His training began at the tender age of ten in his native Triana, the most Gypsy of Sevilla’s neighborhoods and his professional career at age twelve. At thirteen, Ricardo became a pupil of the great Niño Ricardo and Manolo de Huelva and soon after, began touring and accompanying legendary singers and guitarists of the 20th Century such as Antonio Mairena, Pepe Pinto, el Fosforito and Paco de Lucia and in 1971 he received the "Premio Nacional de Guitarra de Acompanamiento" in Cordoba. He toured with Pepe Marchena and la Niña de los Peines in the now legendary tour “Así Canta Andalucia”. His international tours include performances in Japan, Morocco, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the United States. As a solo artist, he has recorded albums such as,"Flamenco Fury" (1976),"Flamenco Concert Record" (1976), "Magic Bridge Record" (1983), "Puerta de Triana" (1989) and "Jacaranda" (1990).

Pepa Montes, is an exquisite dancer, choreographer and is described by the critics as... "elegant, without rigidities, dominating the stage with corporal expression of her hands, arms and facial expressions"....The musicality of her feet "puts a note of color in the footwork of whatever rhythm she is dancing". She was born in Las Cabezas de San Juan, Sevilla. Pepa began her flamenco training at the early age of seven . Her talent was soon recognized by her teachers and mentors, Pepe Marchena, Pepe Pinto and Flamenco greats such as Juan Talega and Antonio Mairena, who began including her in their concerts at a very early age.

Ms. Montes has been awarded various prestigious awards in her native Spain. She is a four time winner of the prestigious National Awards for Flamenco Dance in Spain, including the “Premio Nacional de Baile Flamenco, Juana la Macarrona” in Córdoba, The “Cabal del Baile” , the “Insignia de Oro” in Los Palacios and Palma del Río and the Prize of the “Cátedra de Flamencología y Estudios Folkloricos” in Jeréz. She has toured internationally as a soloist and with her husband and company, "Flamenco en Concierto" which includes France, Switzerland, Italy and the United States.

Pedro Ricardo Mino, is the son of Pepa Montes and Ricardo Mino. He was born in Sevilla in the Bario de Triana in 1979, destined to join the many luminaries of the Flamenco world with his enormous gift and musical genius. He was presented in his first public piano concert in Sevilla, at the tender age of four. His training and formation took place in the family and at the Conservatory of Music in Sevilla. He has toured and played in various prestigious theaters in Spain, such as the Teatro Manuel de Falla de Cadiz, Gran Teatro de Cordoba and the Noches de la Villa de Madrid, to name a few. He has toured parts of Europe and the United States as a soloist and with his parents company, "Flamenco en Concierto".

At age 26, he is already considered one of the world's top Flamenco pianists as well as a world class musician. His first recording as a soloist can be found in the collection "Novísimos" which was released by Sony in 2004.

Carolina Lugo is a gifted performer and an award winning choreographer. She has danced and toured throughout the United Stares and internationally with such notable companies as the Lola Montes Spanish Dance Company, Luisa Triana Flamenco Dance Company, Jose Greco and Rosa Montoya Bailes Flamencos as well as with many leading Flamenco artists from Spain. She has collaborated with numerous Conductors of California and Nevada symphonies to choreograph complete Flamenco Ballets to the music of leading Spanish composers of the 20th Century and has been presented as a guest artist along with her Company. They have toured California and Nevada with several symphonies giving encore performances of her critically acclaimed choreographic works to sold out audiences.

Jesus Montoya (Guest Singer) was born in Seville, Spain into a Gypsy family steeped in flamenco tradition. His energetic stage presence and unforgettable voice have earned him the name" El Genio Gitano" (The Gypsy Dynamo). The Los Angeles Times has declared him the "Pavarotti of Flamenco". Mr. Montoya has toured the United States as a guest artist with Maria Benitez, La Tania and Zorongo Flamenco Dance Company. He has appeared with Rosa Montoya Bailes Flamencos, Carolina Lugo's Brisas de España, Caminos Flamencos and Omayra Amaya. He is Co-Director of his Academy of Spanish Fine Arts in San Diego. Mr. Montoya has recorded several CD albums and Hollywood commercials. This is his third guest appearance with Brisas de España.

Gino D'Auri (Guest Guitarist) was born in Rome and has toured the World many times with many of the greatest Flamenco Artists of the 20th Century. He is an accomplished concert artist and composer and has recorded several CD albums for Hearts of Space/World Class Records as well as for many Hollywood films. He trained in Flamenco and Classical music in his native country and traveled to Spain to continue his studies. He has been featured in numerous concerts with many of the leading Flamenco Dance Companies in the United States. He plays in a style that moves the heart and cuts to the very soul of the music. Gino, says "For me, the music is a limitless expression of improvisation and the need to express feelings about every day life... When you improvise you can't allow yourself to think about anything other than the feeling of the moment. That is where great music comes from." This is his second guest appearance with Brisas de España.

Carolé Acúña (Principal Dancer) is the daughter of Carolina Lugo and a fifth generation dancer in her family. She is a gifted artist and an accomplished performer. She began her training in Flamenco at the age of 11 with Rosa Montoya, Carolina Lugo, Manuel Betanzos, José Galvan, Omayra Amaya, Concha Vargas, Antonio Vargas and in Spanish, Classical and Regional Dance with Ms. Lugo. She is one of the most prominent young Flamenco and Spanish dance artists on the West Coast. At 15 years old, she made her professional debut with Rosa Montoya's Bailes Flamencos Dance Company and toured Northern California with them in 1997. She performs regularly with Brisas de España as a Principal Dancer at venues throughout California, Nevada and as a soloist with other Bay Area Flamenco artists. She is thoroughly trained in Ballet and Modern Dance and continues to study with Cheryl Chaddick in San Francisco. Carolé has just returned from a six month stay in Seville, Spain, where she studied extensively with renowned Flamenco Artist, Pepa Montes. Ms. Acúña offers Beginner Flamenco and Modenco© {fusion of Flamenco & Modern Dance} Dance Classes at the new Studio Danza in San Francisco.

New from Sevilla Press...
Flamenco Dance: Secrets of the Professionals

If you desire to be a performing or professional flamenco bailaora, SECRETS OF THE PROFESSIONALS might be the most valuable investment you can make in your dance future. For less than the cost of a single private dance lesson you can own inside information that would normally be acquired (if you are lucky) only through years of lessons, workshops, and performing. This is the stuff that is generally not taught in dance classes—tips and techniques that are the keys to success. It is not so much about planta-tacón (ball-heel) as it is about what to do with planta-tacón after you learn it. Although the book was written for students, dancers of all levels should be able to benefit from reading it. SECRETS OF THE PROFESSIONALS should also be of interest to many aficionados and guitarists. Although the book gets a little technical at times, the aficionado is sure to gain insight into the dance and enhance his pleasure in watching dance performances. Guitarists who wish to be accompanists will find a great deal of useful information. Even dance teachers will benefit from being reminded of what they should be teaching in their classes.Click here for more info.
