Morca, the artist and the MORCA METHOD OF DANCE

Teo Morca is recognized throughout the world of dance as a master teacher, coach, choreographer, performer, author and lecturer for Spanish/Flamenco and the classical repertoire.

His methods are unique, intense and exciting. They stress a firm technical foundation and a deep understanding of how to make steps into a dance, how to look like a dancer, how to feel like a dancer and how to move like a dancer.
Morca's comprehensive approach to developing performance quality brings out the best in his students naturally. He molds individual style and fosters a sense of class, grace, finesse, focus, strength, projection, dynamics, energy, musicality, phrasing, control and interpretation.

Teo Morca and La Chunga dancing "Tangos" at Cafe De Chinitas, Madrid, Spain

In his character classes for flamenco and classical students, he begins with the upper body, emphasizing beautiful carriage and arms, mixed with the earthy quality of Spanish and flamenco dance; this sense of inner energy is then combined with the elegance and unique torso of the Spanish classical bolero school, AND THE DYNAMICS OF FLAMENCO.

Students are shown the magic of "becoming the dance" and how rewarding it is to be inspired by the essence of all dance forms -- meaning any form of movement that says and feels something. At this level, Morca can successfully portray the character, romance and passions intrinsic to classical and flamenco. He imparts the essential skill of recognizing the interpreting duende -- the inner spirit or soul--and so reveals the "emotion in motion" between artist and audience.

Teo Morca dancing Seguiriyas in Caves of Nerja, Spain

My choreographies are inspired by the essence of all dance forms, all movement that says and feels something. My philosophy is that dance is dance and each form is but one facet of the whole beautiful jewel of dance. If there is any message at all, it is one of human communication, not only of feeling but of all the senses. It is to experience the all important "duende" or inner spirit or soul; the emotion in motion between artist and audience... TEODORO MORCA

What is that shining
amoung the olive groves
It's my girl's eyes
which are like my mother's

There's a brightness in you eyes
which I gave you
you took me from the darkness
and at my side I saw you suffer
That's why you'll always be mine and I'll be yours
you'll always be what I never expected of anyone
I'll always be at your side

Whether the sun comes out or not.

A Benefit for
Phoebe Vernier "La Fibi"

Queridos Amigos,
As you may have heard, this past Monday, our dear friend and compañera flamenca, Phoebe Vernier, "La Fibi" was hospitalized at Petaluma Valley Hospital for a ruptured appendix.  She is scheduled to be released in a few days and is still recovering.

Phoebe has been a professional dancer in the Bay Area for the past twenty years.  Just the other week, she quit her job at the Sheraton Hotel so that she could realize her dream of teaching and performing flamenco full time.  She had just begun to do what she loves most when this medical emergency took place.    Unfortunately, she does not have any medical insurance and will be responsible for a sizable hospital bill.  Her medical condition has prevented her from working over the past two weeks and she is likely to be out of work for at least two months.

Many of you have already expressed your concern and want to help.  Any financial gifts you can spare at this time are greatly appreciated and will go a long way. Please take the time to show your love and support to a buena compañera flamenca.

Here's how you can give:
Please make checks or money orders payable to "Phoebe Vernier" and send to:

LA MIRI FLAMENCO DANCE
Flamenco Improvisation: Tangos

Have you ever wanted to get up & dance at a fiesta or when you were pulled up on stage after a show but werenðt sure when to do what where? This special series focuses on understanding the musical and dance structure of Tangos, and on the relationship between the dance, singing and palmas.

This knowledge, while often not explicitly taught in dance classes, is essential for strong, effective improvisation.  This unique workshop gives you the confidence you've been looking for.  The workshop is for any level, any physical condition; we learn both new material and also use choreography that people may already know.
