FOR ALL AFICIONADOS: CANTE de UTRERA
7:00-8:30 pm
*Gypsy singer from Utrera, Mari Peña, from Utrera´s long line of
acclaimed singers, will teach some of her letras por tientos/tangos and
bulerias. These are two of her strongest palos and she is a master in
singing with strong emotion and precise compás. She will demonstrate
some of the letras from her family and explain what separates Utrera
from the other flamenco towns with regards to cante. Her classes are
for all levels of students.

BAILE CASERO POR BULERIAS FOR ALL AFICIONADOS
8:30-10 pm
This is a class that you don´t see everyday. Luis Peña and Javier
Heredia, the two best young gypsy singer-dancers from Seville, both
protégés of Miguel Funi and Paco Valdepeñas, will teach the importance
of dancing to cante and of placing remates in the correct spots of the
letras. They will both sing and dance in the class and explain how the
dancer's intention is more important than fancy footwork or spectacular
speed. You might remember Luis from Tao Ruspoli's documentary film,
"Flamenco, A Personal Journey". He was the one teaching Tao to dance on
the rooftop with the white handkerchief. This is true pueblo-style
dancing at its best.

TECHNIQUE AND PATA'ITAS FOR DANCERS
7:00-8:30 pm
Cihtli Ocampo "La Gallardi" will teach technique for all levels of
dancers and pataditias por bulerias. She has been teaching in the USA
for many years and possesses the ability to provide a sort of bridge of
understanding between Spain and the USA. She will teach the importance
of the body´s colocation in dance and how footwork must be executed
with "mando" in order to transmit to the public and to one´s own
musicians. Class will be accompanied with cante and guitar by Ethan
Margolis.

FOR GUITARISTS: CANTE ACCOMPANIMENT
8:30-10 pm
*Guitarist, Antonio Moya will guide guitar students through
accompaniment of soleá and bulerías alongside his wife, gypsy singer
Maria Peña. The students will be exposed to different styles of soleá
and bulerías and Antonio will demonstrate how the singing from Utrera
is full of variety and delicate nuances. Antonio Moya is currently one
of Spain´s most important cante accompanists. His knowledge of cante
and its variations as well as what distinguishes each region´s style is
almost unrivaled.
