”Passionate Mastery.” — Los Angeles Times

Gather the family for a romantic holiday respite at Spain’s intimate tablao shows of yesterday, as the world-renowned artists Yaelisa & Caminos Flamencos and ODC Theater present “Jardin de Mis Sueños” (Garden of my Dreams). Emmy Award-winning dancer and choreographer Yaelisa creates an evening of traditional flamenco choreography in a contemporary vein, featuring six dancers and four musicians in a spectacular production, with musical director/guitarist Jason McGuire and flamenco singers from Spain, and guest dancer Andres Peña from Jerez de la Frontera making his Bay Area debut.

“Jardin de Mis Sueños” is a re-creation of Spanish nightclubs of past generations in homage to the excitement of the traditional tablao, where dancers and musicians perform impressive numbers in an intimate setting, with the figuras or stars of the show closing the set. The show includes many representative flamenco styles in solo and ensemble performances, including Alegrías, Fandangos, Solea, Caña, and the more rarely performed Caracoles. The audience is swept into the intensity and passion of flamenco, with a close-up view of the dancers and musicians. The musicians are led by guitarist Jason McGuire “El Rubio”, who has the distinction of being the most widely-watched guitarist on YouTube. In usual Spanish tradition, families are encouraged to attend with children, with 3pm matinees on Saturday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 16 (children 12 and under are free at Saturday’s Family Matinee). Spanish tapas and wine, plus holiday treats for the kids during matinee performances will be available in the lobby, making this a one-of-a-kind experience for patrons who are more accustomed to seeing Yaelisa & Caminos Flamencos perform in larger venues.

Yaelisa & Caminos Flamencos present “Jardin de Mis Sueños” at ODC Theater, 3153 17th Street (at Shotwell), San Francisco, from Wednesday, December 12 through Sunday, December 16. Performances are Wed., Thurs., Fri. Dec. 12–14 at 8pm; Sat., Dec. 15 and Sun., Dec. 16 at 3pm and 8pm. The Family Matinee at 3pm on Saturday, Dec. 15 offers FREE admission for youth 12 and under who attend with their families.
