Contracting a Performance

Are you interested in contracting a flamenco performance?
Here are some basics to help you get started:

SF Flamenco is a volunteer project, supported by the community, for the community and does not manage artists. Contact artists directly, not SF Flamenco. Read the mission.

Artists are professionals. The Artists list includes a range of artists, from international Master Artists, to emerging artists. The performance and your contract will be reflective of their experience and artistic status. Discuss this directly with the artists. SF Flamenco is in no way related to your contract. Read the Disclaimer.

Flamenco shows at a “bare bone” minimum include a dancer, singer and guitarist, usually two dancers. This is a "cuadro" or group show. Guitarists are often hired for solo performances.

Dancers will need a danceable surface. Slated decks and concrete are hazardous. Many troupes and companies can supply their own stage for a fee.

Performers may need a private and secure dressing room.

"Clapping": The artists claps are the "palmas" and are an intricate beat structure of rhythms for each particular "palo" or type of song. The palmas are in 12 beat structures and often will have counter time. Clapping along when you are not a skilled palmista is like taking your own drum set to a rock concert.

Jaelos, shouts and whispers from the audience such as “Olé” (often pronounced ‘all-ay’) are to commend and inspire a performer.

Flamenco is a culture, a lifestyle, a tradition.

Enjoy your show!
