Flamenco & Duende in the Arts
About The Gallery

Painting by Jason Engelund

Flamenco and Duende in the Arts is an exciting new Online Art Gallery that will showcase fine art that evokes and reflects duende and flamenco. Jason Engelund, el Pintor, director of SF Flamenco says, on the subject of exploring this exciting topic in the arts: "There is a long tradition of duende and flamenco being shown in painting, sculpture, photography and many art forms. I am hoping to gather art from artists in all parts of the world to show the universal human emotions that make flamenco. Seeing the art together one can see so many reflections of flamenco culture, the colors of Andalucía, the intensity and types of emotions, and history of flamenco."

Jason Engelund was honored as being the Official Visual Artist for the first Northwest Flamenco Festival in Portland Oregon 2005. Engelund has been painting duende, flamenco and the bullfight since 1995. He has lectured on cultural aesthetics, duende and flamenco. A founding staff member of the California College of the Arts Center for Art and Public Life, he works to support cultural arts. Engelund was the founding director, and former editor of SF Flamenco, the San Francisco Bay Area online flamenco magazine.
